The goals of the “Critical Connections in American History” program are:
- To strengthen teachers’ understanding of the basic facts of traditional American history;
- To impart to the participants a sense of the national and international interplay of political, economic, geographic, social, cultural and intellectual elements that influenced major “intersections” in the history of the United States;
- To provide knowledge of and access to original documents, diaries, photographs, artifacts and representative works that enrich our understanding of American history;
- To demonstrate the use of advanced technology in furthering their own study of history and that of their students; and ultimately
- To enhance the understanding of students of American history as demonstrated by their performance on standardized tests.
